Piers, one of our volunteer Critical Care Paramedics, embarked on a charity mission to Montenegro last month.
Representing the firefighter charity Operation Florian, Piers volunteered his own time to join a team of fire service instructors to deliver road traffic collision (RTC) training to volunteer firefighters, who also received a fire appliance donated by Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service (GMFRS) on behalf of Operation Florian.
Based in the municipality of Niksič, Piers and the team of instructors imparted knowledge of extrication techniques and general first aid, buying the volunteer firefighters (and their casualties) vital time before definitive help arrives. Scenarios included ‘The trapped driver and passenger’ and ‘The colleague fallen from a ladder’, and formed a great opportunity to practice newly developed skills in prehospital trauma care.
Overall, the mission was deemed to be a success and Piers hopes to return with Operation Florian to continue with future phases of the mission.
