The scheme works with the North West Ambulance Service which covers the North West of England.

We have a specific memorandum of understanding with the ambulance service allowing us to respond on their behalf.

Our operational areas are very much rural. We attend many trauma and medical cases. We have a two pronged responding ability. Responders can be called out from home and respond in their own unmarked vehicles to local incidents when the need arises. We also operate a team response where our team vehicle will be crewed by a Doctor and Paramedic team.

It should be noted that we are not a PHEM training scheme and currently, it is just experienced Doctors and Paramedics working at the Advanced Paramedic or Critical Care Paramedic level that we can put on the road.

Our aim long-term is to get other appropriately trained health care professionals responding, to provide advanced care as Immediate Care Practitioners working within our multi-disciplinary team.

If you are looking to join as responding Doctor, please check out our eligibility criteria here. Due to the fact we are not a training scheme, our criteria for responding Doctors is set quite high. This is reviewed regularly and will be updated if circumstances change.

We are pleased to have Nurses as part of the team but currently they are unable to respond. We very much see the benefit of having a multi -disciplinary team and are working to enable Nurse responders to become active within the team.
